Janine Branje
Company: Hush Interiors Ltd
Position: General Manager
Qualifications: Diploma Quantity Surveying, Degree in Construction (QS).
Why I got into this industry: Maths and accounting interested me. Always liked architecture. Visited a construction site when I was at school. When I was first qualified, I started as Admin person for a ceiling company, as no-one would employ a female as a QS.
What I love about interior construction: Having worked in various sectors of the industry, ie PQS, Large Main Contractor & various Subs, I have settled back in interiors. Work is sheltered from the weather, forever evolving and busy. I've seen many buildings over the years go through various upgrades and fitout changes. There will always be work in commercial interiors.
Where I see myself in the future within this industry sector: Mentoring, supporting the younger generation to learn & grow. Inspiring others to get involved.
Biggest achievement within this industry sector: Successfully stepping up from QS to GM over 2 years ago at Hush Interiors all while still working through personal loss of my daughter.
What was the most interesting project I have worked on so far: I’ve been involved in so many different projects over the past 30 years. So many trends evolving and changing. My passion for the industry remains. One of my most memorable interiors projects was of a twisted, curved & wave gib ceiling that was installed in a real estate office in Wgtn. While the architect couldn’t draw it, we still had to design and build it to meet their vision.
